News from Natural Theatre

Homeless Bath

A new way to look at the historic sites of Bath through the eyes of ex-homeless people.

Based on the highly successful and very entertaining walking tours of Covent Garden led by guides who have experienced homelessness, this project aims to set up a regular programme of walking tours with a difference.

We have been working with the organisers and a preview tour takes place on the afternoon of Wednesday 10th April with an invited audience. This is being filmed and will be featured on BBC Points West that evening.

Natural Diversions

This is Natural Theatre’s new street theatre project for professional performers who are disabled.

They have been devising comic scenarios at Widcombe Institute all week and their first public appearances will take place on Sunday 7th April around the Abbey and along Milsom Street between 11am and 3pm as part of the final day of Bath Comedy Festival. Expect, amongst other things, mad archaeologists, traffic wardens with an alternative attitude, a pirate with two eye patches and a guide parrot (as opposed to the usual Labrador).

Natural Diversions will be performing in Cardiff and other city centres in the summer months.

They have been formed in association with Graeae (Paralympics opening ceremony) and with the support of Arts Council Grants for the Arts.

Natural Youth Theatre Reminder

You may have spotted several dozen smart young people carrying pink suitcases around town recently.

This was the Natural Youth Theatre performing the Natural’s classic street theatre piece in front of proud parents and baffled tourists for their end of term finale.

Registration is now open for the new term, so if you have a bored teenager at home or know of others with a frustrated performance bent, now is the time to sign up.

Places are like gold dust, with many of the 50 members re-joining. But some are leaving because they are now too old or have exams. So get in there double quick!

The workshops and performances are great fun, confidence-building and help stimulate leadership, teamwork and creativity (it says here).

The Youth Theatre meets on Wednesdays in our purpose-built Youth Studio at Widcombe Institute.
