Head of Development, Holburne Museum

Re-opened three years ago following a major £11.2m capital project which has doubled the exhibition and public space of the Museum’s magnificent Palladian style Georgian building, the museum houses a collection of some 9,000 objects, including one of the finest collections of 18thcentury portrait paintings outside London. The Holburne is a vibrant and thriving museum with a busy programme. Believing strongly in access to the arts for all, it stages exhibitions, events and educational activities of outstanding quality.

The Museum operates on an annual budget of about £1.3m, 30% of which is generated by charging for exhibitions, although entry to the Museum is free, contributing an important part of the commercial income generation of the Museum. Having secured help from the Department for Culture Media & Sport and the Heritage Lottery Fund Catalyst Endowment scheme, the Museum is now on course to build a significant endowment fund which will also contribute to the annual income of this independent Museum.

In the new Head of Development, The Holburne seeks an all-round fundraising professional, with a particular appetite to support the Chair and the newly-appointed Director in the challenge of continuing to build the endowment fund while identifying and securing funders for the Museum’s programme of activity. Leading a small team, with an ability to run a highly professional administrative operation, the new Head of Development will also be responsible for increasing the amount that the Museum raises through sponsorship.

To qualify for this role you will be educated to degree level, with a minimum of 5 years fundraising experience and with sufficient breadth and seniority in a previous role to be successful in this leadership position. Articulate with strong verbal and written communication skills, you will be financially literate with strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively manage a small team.
